Spotify

Cannes Future Lions Brief: How can Spotify spread positivity by using technology to bring listeners closer to the creators and communities they love?

Insight: Local radio stations used to connect older generations through music, and younger generations miss out on an integral part of music history.

Big Idea: Time travel through sound.

Case Study

World Radio Day

On February 14th, World Radio Day, the Spotify app will go analog. Instead of your playlists, you’ll see an old radio interface. To turn it off, just turn the volume knob down. You know, how old radios used to turn off (we anticipate Gen Z will have some trouble with this).

Radio Archives

From then on, each day, Spotify will play 12 hours of uninterrupted audio from an archived local radio station, from a different place and time in the US, in real-time.

Radio stations used to be advertised on billboards. So we made billboards in the styles of different decades.

Radio Ads

We made some goofy radio jingle-style ads to play on actual FM radio.
